Tough Eighth Inning Spoils Green Jackets Night

GreenJackets take a two to one lead up to the 6th inning when the Rome Braves tied the game up at two to two. The GreenJackets gave up four runs in eighth inning giving to the Rome Braves a six to two lead. The GreenJackets we able to tack on one more run in the eighth inning but fell short with a score of six to three in favor of the Rome Braves.

Local prospect Hunter Cole got things started in the bottom of the first inning for the Augusta GreenJackets with a line drive RBI double that scored Johneshwy Fargas.

In the top of the third inning Joseph Daris ripped a triple to left field setting the Braves and himself up in scoring position. Ozhaino Albies was able to hit in Daris with a ground out RBI to third base tying the game at one a piece. In the bottom of the third inning Johneshwy Fargas reached base on a hit by pitch. Fargas then successfully stole second base, giving Jeremy See the opportunity for a go ahead RBI to put the GreenJackets up two to one at the end of the third inning.

Things quieted down for a few innings as pitchers from both clubs settled in on the mound. GreenJackets left handed pitcher Mark Reyes went a strong five innings just allowing one hit, one earned run, one walk, and striking out five Braves batters. Rome Braves' right-handed pitcher Sean Furney pitched four and two thirds innings of relief work. Furney left the game only allowing two hits and striking out one GreenJacket batter.

At the top of the 6th inning the Rome Braves tied up the game on a Ozhaino Albies single to right field. The game would remain at a two to two tie until the top of the eighth inning. Joseph Daris and Ozhaino Albies got things started for the Braves with line drive singles to right field. Braves center fielder Keith Curcio singled to center scoring both Daris and Albies. A two out two run double by Wigberto Nevarez put the Braves on top with a six to two lead at the end of the eighth inning.

The GreenJackets were able squeeze in another run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a bases loaded Skyler Ewing walk. The GreenJackets rally came up short when the Braves right handed closer Jorge Zavala retired the side in the bottom of the ninth, securing the save and the win for the Rome Braves.
