Charleston RiverDogs News Release

SAVANNAH, GA - Lefty Jordan Montgomery pitched into the sixth before turning it over to the bullpen who polished off the Sand Gnats with three scoreless innings as the RiverDogs downed Savannah 4-3, Friday night at Historic Grayson Stadium. The victory marks the first on the road for Charleston in the 2015 season.

The game traveled into the fifth inning tied at 1-1, before the RiverDogs pushed across a trio of runs in the top-half of the inning. Jose Javier sparked the rally with an infield single against Savannah's starter Brad Wieck (0-2). He then stole second and third before he broke the tie and scored on a ground ball to third. Dustin Fowler drove home the second run of the frame with a triple to the wall and left center and Connor Spencer upped the lead to 4-1 with a sacrifice fly.

Montgomery (2-0) gave a run back in each of the next two innings, which cut the lead to 4-3. JC Rodriguez made it a two-run game with a RBI single in the fifth and Tomas Nieto scored on a sacrifice fly in the sixth, making it a one-run game.

The former University of South Carolina standout was lifted after the sac-fly and the latest RiverDog, Dillon McNamara was called upon in relief. He pitched five scoreless outs and handed the ball over to Cale Coshow for the four-out save. The righty retired the first three he faced in order and struck out John Mora to end the game, leaving the tying run at first and earning his second save in as many chances.

The first two frames went by in scoreless fashion before the two teams traded a run in the third. The RiverDogs (5-4) tallied their run on Fowler's sac-fly to center and the Sand Gnats (3-5) countered with a run on a sac-fly of their own in the bottom half.

Montgomery earned his second win in as many starts, going five and two-thirds, allowing three runs, all earned, on five hits, while striking out eight and walking two. He out-dueled Wieck who pitched to one batter in the fifth before being lifted.
