ABOUT LAST NIGHT: Manuel Margot, Forrestt Allday and Jake Romanski each had three hits as they led the Salem offense to a 13-3 throttling of the Mudcats at Salem Memorial Baseball Stadium on Thursday night. Allday was 3-for-3 with a run and three RBI in the Red Sox victory. Lucas Sims started for the Mudcats (4-3) and took the loss after allowing five runs on five hits over two and 1/3 innings. He lost a 1-0 lead in the third and gave up five runs in the inning. Sims (1-1, 7.56) walked three, allowed four hits and had a throwing error in the third. Salem's Jake Dahlstrand (2-0, 1.50) earned his second straight win versus Carolina this year after holding the Mudcats to two runs and six hits over six innings.

NEXT UP: Tonight the Mudcats turn things over to RHP Andrew Thurman in game two of their four game series with the Red Sox at LewisGale Field in Salem. Thurman is 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA this season. He last pitched against this same Salem club on 4/11 and kept the Salem Sox to just three hits over six scoreless innings. Thurman is currently ranked as the #29 prospect in the Braves farm system by Baseball America. He was 7-9 with a 5.38 ERA over 26 games and 20 starts last season with the Houston Astros Low A club, the Quad Cities River Bandits. LHP Trey Ball gets the game two start for Salem tonight. Ball made his Carolina League and High A debut on 4/10 against the Mudcats. He allowed five earned runs that day at Five County Stadium. He also gave up 10 hits including two home runs and suffered the loss as the Mudcats picked up their first win of the season. Ball was 5-10 last season with Low A Greenville. He posted a 4.68 ERA over 22 starts and struck out 68 over 100 innings pitched in 2014. Ball is currently ranked as the #15 prospect in the Red Sox system by Baseball America.

FREE FALLIN': Thursday's 13-3 loss to the Red Sox dropped Carolina's team ERA from a league best 2.08 to 3.60 (6th)... The Mudcats pitching staff also fell from leading the league in earned runs allowed (12) to 6th (24).

WHERE THEY RANK: Infielder Jacob Schrader leads the Carolina League with four doubles this season. Schrader is also tied for the league lead in extra-base hits (5)... Starter Steve Janas is 2nd in the league in WHIP (0.17) and currently 2nd in average against (.056)... Starter Andrew Thurman is 3rd among qualified starters in WHIP (0.50)... Reliever Tyler Jones is currently tied for the league lead in saves (2).

HOME RUN FIRSTS: Carlos Franco's two-run, two-out home run in the second inning of Friday's game was the first home run this season for the Mudcats. Sean Godfrey also hit a home run in that same inning. In 2014 it was LF LeVon Washington who hit the first Mudcats' home run of the season. His happened on April 9 in Frederick and during the sixth game of the season (second road game). Second baseman Todd Hankins hit the first Five County Stadium home run on April 17 against Salem. It was a lead off blast and in the 14th game of the season (7th home game).

FAST FACTS:

- This is the 25th consecutive season of Carolina Mudcats baseball at Five County Stadium. - This is the 4th consecutive season for the Mudcats in the Carolina League.

- This is the 1st year for Carolina as an affiliate of the Atlanta Braves.

- MLB.com ranks the Braves farm system as the ninth best in the majors.

- Lynchburg started 2014 9-15 in April, but was 20-11 with .274 team average and 3.71 staff ERA in May. - The Mudcats have not had a winning season since finishing 80-60 in 2008.

TRADING PLACES: Atlanta assigned off-season trade acquisitions Andrew Thurman (from Houston), Jose Briceno (from Colorado) and Dustin Peterson (from San Diego) to the Mudcats for the 2015 season. In all, the Braves were involved in 13 trades this past off-season. As a result Atlanta now has five of the top 75 picks in the 2015 draft, including selections 14, 28, 41, 54 and 75.

SCHRADER: Schrader hit safely in each of his last six games in 2014. He is currently in a 10-game hitting streak.
