Seattle Reign FC News Release

SEATTLE (April 17, 2015) - Seattle Reign FC (1-0-0, 3 pts) will start the road portion of its 2015 schedule on Saturday, April 18 against the Chicago Red Stars (0-0-0, 0 pts). Kick-off is set for 5 p.m. PT at the Village of Lisle-Benedictine University Sports Complex in Chicago, with a live, high-definition webstream available at YouTube.com/NWSL.

Reign FC's first win of the 2015 campaign came in convincing fashion last Sunday, as a hat trick from forward Megan Rapinoe led the way in a 5-1 victory. Through one game, the Redding, Calif. native has scored more goals than six of the other seven teams in action last weekend.

Welsh international Jess Fishlock and forward Beverly Yanez also notched goals in the winning effort, while goalkeeper Hope Solo made five saves.

Rapinoe and Solo also received word this week that they had both made the U.S. Women's National Team's 23-player roster for this summer's FIFA World Cup.

Meanwhile, the Red Stars were the lone team on the sidelines for the first weekend of league play, with Saturday marking the start of their season after just missing the playoffs last year.

Head coach and general manager Laura Harvey said she doesn't feel Chicago has changed too much from last season, but that her team will go over some film from last year to see what they can improve on.

"With it being their first game, obviously we have to prepare for everything because we don't know how they're going to look," Harvey said.

Chicago finished tied with the Washington Spirit in total points in 2014 but missed out on the fourth and final postseason spot by virtue of a head-to-head tiebreaker.

The Red Stars boast four U.S. WNT players - all returnees from last season - in defenders Lori Chalupny and Julie Johnston, midfielder Shannon Boxx, and forward Christen Press.

While the team didn't make any major offseason trades or free agent additions, two first round draft picks join the Red Stars: Kentucky defender Arin Gilliland, and Virginia midfielder Danielle Colaprico, along with second-round selection Santa Clara forward Sofia Huerta.

Last season, Reign FC posted a 1-1-1 record against the Red Stars, notching a win and a tie in a pair of games in Seattle, while dropping the lone road matchup.

Scottish international Kim Little had two goals and Solo made four saves in a 3-1 win on June 7, while Seattle was held off the scoreboard in a 1-0 defeat in Chicago on July 12. Yanez had the Reign's only goal in a 1-1 draw eight days later in Seattle on July 20.
