Storm with 3-2 Comeback Win

KEARNEY, NE - Jimmy Schuldt and Ryan Donato scored power-play goals and Kris Oldham made 34 saves but it was three goals by the Tri-City Storm in the third period, including two in the final 3:14 of regulation to complete a 3-2 comeback victory over the Lancers and move out to a 2-0 series lead on Thursday night.

Omaha took advantage of a power-play just over midway through the first period. Louie Rowe and Anthony Angello worked the puck out to captain Jimmy Schuldt at the top of the offensive zone circles. Schuldt sent a back-hand shot through traffic that found a way by goaltender Alec Dillon for a 1-0 lead over the Storm at 7:54 of the first period. The goal was Schuldt's first of the playoffs assisted by Anthony Angello and Louie Rowe.

In the second period, the Lancers took advantage of another power-play opportunity to take a two-goal lead. As Chris Wilkie sat in the penalty box, Ryan Donato took a pass down the right wing wall and moved into the offensive zone circle. Donato lifted the puck on his back-hand and sent it over the left shoulder of Alec Dillon for a 2-0 lead just 4:22 into the second period. Assists on Donato's first USHL playoff goal were credited to Steven Spinner and Shane Gersich.

In the third period Omaha tried to break the puck out of the zone but couldn't. Tri-City turned it into a scoring chance and after a scramble in front of the net, the puck rolled out to Kevin Kerr waiting at the top of the offensive zone circle. Kerr let a shot go that went off the left post and in the net to cut Omaha's lead back to 2-1. Kerr's goal came at 4:30 of the final period with assists from Nick Master and Chris Wilkie.

A costly penalty late in regulation for the Lancers and the Tri-City Storm took advantage to even the game at two goals apiece. After too many men on the ice was called on Omaha, the Storm set up their power-play with just over three minutes left in the game. A shot on net was deflected right to an awaiting Mason Appleton as the bottom of the right wing circle. Appleton ripped the shot over a diving Kris Oldham in net for Omaha to tie the game with 3:14 left in the game.

Just when fans might have thought overtime was coming up, Tri-City scored their third unanswered goal with 1:05 remaining in the game to take a 3-2 lead. A pass from the left side went right to Daniel Labosky who one-timed the puck by Oldham for the eventual game-winning goal and a 2-0 series lead over the Lancers.

Kris Oldham stopped 34 of 37 shots on net in the loss.
