OHL Announces Western Conference Championship Series Schedule

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Hockey League today announced the schedule for the 2015 OHL Western Conference Championship Series between the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds and the Erie Otters beginning next Thursday night, April 23, in Sault Ste. Marie.
The third round series features the top two teams in the OHL's Western Conference standings during the 2014-15 regular season schedule competing for the Wayne Gretzky Trophy. This season the first place Greyhounds earned the Hamilton Spectator Trophy and West Division title with a league-best 54-12-0-2 record for 110 points, while the second place Otters captured the Midwest Division title with a 50-14-2-2 record for 104 points.
The Greyhounds advanced to the Western Conference Championship Series with a 4-0 series win over the defending champion Guelph Storm ending with a 3-2 victory on Tuesday. The Otters also advanced with a 4-0 series win in the second round eliminating the London Knights with a 5-2 victory on Tuesday.
The Greyhounds and Otters were 1-1-0-0 in head-to-head competition during the 2014-15 regular season, and will meet for just the third time in OHL playoff history. The Otters defeated the Greyhounds 4-0 in last season's Western Conference Semi-Finals, while the Greyhounds won 4-3 in second round action back in 2000.
The Western Conference Champion receives the Wayne Gretzky Trophy named in honour of the Hockey Hall of Fame member who played for the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in 1977-78. Since the two conference division in 1999, the Greyhounds are seeking their first Western Conference title, while the Otters captured their only Wayne Gretzky Trophy in 2002.
