Two-Out Magic Backs Nuts' Staff in 3-2 Win

Bakersfield, CA. - With two, two-out, RBI knocks by Ashley Graeter, the Modesto Nuts came from behind to win 3-2 against the Bakersfield Blaze on Wednesday afternoon at Sam Lynn Ballpark to secure their first series victory of the season.

In the first, the Nuts (3-4) struck for one on Correlle Prime's RBI double. The Blaze (2-5) came back with a two-run homer by Kyle Petty to take the lead in the second.

From there, the starters took over. Ryan Yarbrough tossed six innings and allowed just two hits, one walk and struck out one for the Blaze. Konner Wade only allowed the two-run homer over six, three-hit innings with one walk and three strikeouts.

Graeter tied the game for the Nuts in the seventh with a two-out RBI double. In the ninth, Graeter snapped the tie with a RBI single to score Jordan Patterson with two outs against Blaze reliever Trey Cochran-Gill (L, 0-1)

Rayan Gonzalez (S, 1) pitched around a leadoff walk and stranded the tying runner in scoring position to deliver the Nuts their first one-run victory of the year.

Carlos Estevez (W, 1-0) tossed two dominant innings out of the Nuts' bullpen. Estevez struck out three and allowed just one infield single.

The home opener is on Thursday night at John Thurman Field with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. Johendi Jiminian gets the start for Modesto. Harrison Cooney will toss for the Inland Empire 66ers in the first of a four-game series. Coverage on ModestoNuts.com will start at 7:00 p.m.
