Glaesmann Hits for Cycle, Rawhide Dominate Giants

April 15, 2015 - California League (CalL1)
Visalia Rawhide News Release

VISALIA--Todd Glaesmann needed just 4 at-bats and 6 innings to complete Visalia's first cycle since 2007, as the Rawhide beat San Jose 9-2 on Tuesday night in Visalia.

After Tyler Horan popped a 2-run homer in the top of the 1st to give San Jose their only lead of the evening, Glaesmann immediately went to work. He led off the bottom of the 1st with a double, and later scored on Kevin Cron's monster home run to left field.

Stewart Ijames immediately followed Cron with a titanic blast of his own--this one to right field--to make it 3-2 Visalia after an inning.

They piled on 4 more in the 2nd; Michael Perez walked, Jamie Westbrook singled, Breland Almadova singled to drive in a run, and Glaesmann collected another part of his cycle by dropping down a bunt single.

That loaded the bases for Domingo Leyba, who sliced a sacrifice fly to left-center, plating Westbrook and making it 5-2. Daniel Palka then doubled to left, scoring Almadova for the 6th run. Kevin Cron capped the rally with a run-scoring groundout, and it was 7-2 Rawhide.

In the last of the 4th, Glaesmann finished the 3rd leg of the cycle by hooking a home run inside the left field foul pole against beleaguered Giants starter Martin Agosta (0-1), giving the 'Hide an 8-2 advantage.

And in the bottom of the 6th, Glaesmann, needing a triple to complete the rare feat, stepped up with 2 out and drove the ball to right-center field. It carried over the head of Giants right-fielder Tyler Horan and rattled against the fence, and as Horan struggled to corral it, Glaesmann never broke stride, streaking into 3rd base without a throw.

The Texan became the first Visalia player to hit for the cycle since Derek Bruce achieved it on July 26th, 2007 at Municipal Stadium against the Giants.

Glaesmann capped his historic night with an RBI groundout in the bottom of the 8th, which brought Jamie Westbrook home and completed the scoring.

Anthony Banda (2-0) earned the win for the 'Hide, throwing 5 innings and allowing 2 runs on 5 hits. Johnny Shuttlesworth and Keith Hessler pitched 2 frames each, shutting down San Jose for the rest of the night.

The Rawhide improved to 5-1, and will look to sweep the Giants tomorrow night on Craft Beer Night presented by Tioga-Sequoia. It's also the first Win-Win Wednesday of the season...if the Rawhide win, your ticket is also good for the next Wednesday home game! First pitch is at 6:00.
