Quad City Mallards News Release
MOLINE, Ill. (April 14, 2015) - Quad City Mallards forward Mario Lamoureux has signed a professional tryout agreement with the American Hockey League's Charlotte Checkers, the Mallards announced today. Lamoureux will still be eligible for ECHL Kelly Cup playoff duty for the Mallards, who also announced their postseason roster today.
Lamoureux, 26, finished the regular season fifth in the ECHL in assists (51) and tied for eleventh in points (71). Lamoureux scored 20 goals in 68 games after joining the Mallards in an early season trade with the Ontario Reign. The 5' 9", 185-pound Grand Forks, North Dakota, native led the Mallards in power play points (21) and finished tied for the team lead in plus/minus rating (+15).
Lamoureux finished the regular season on a high by recording nine points (two goals and seven assists) in his final six games.
Lamoureux returns to the AHL with the Checkers after earlier this season scoring his first career AHL goal in a two game stint with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers. Lamoureux played college hockey in his home town for perennial power North Dakota. UND qualified for the NCAA tournament each of Lamoureux's four seasons and in 2011 reached the Frozen Four. He also helped North Dakota to three consecutive Western Collegiate Hockey Association tournament titles and a pair of conference regular season crowns. Lamoureux scored 17 goals and produced 29 assists to register 46 points in 157 career collegiate games.
The Mallards' active playoff roster is comprised of 19 players. The Mallards will also begin the playoffs with two players- Lamoureux and defenseman Nicholas Rioux, who is currently with the AHL's Iowa Wild- on the playoff eligible list who will be available to play in the postseason for the Mallards should they return to the club.
