Calgary Stampeders News Release

Calgary head coach and general manager John Hufnagel announces that international receiver Romby Bryant has signed a one-day contract with the club, which allows Bryant to retire as a member of the Stampeders.

"I would like to thank Huff and the Stamps for giving me the opportunity to retire as a Stampeder," said Bryant. "I enjoyed my time there and loved playing for the Stamps and their fans. What I enjoyed more than anything was playing for a professional organization. My experience with the Stamps will always bring positive memories. I can honestly say they handled every situation in a professional manner. I have so much respect for the Stampeders - I had an opportunity to meet many great people and make genuine friends.

"What I will miss more than anything are the friends and teammates. I will miss hitting the field with great players like Arjei Franklin, Ken-Yon Rambo, Nik Lewis, Henry Burris, Brandon Smith, Kevin Glenn and Keon Raymond, just to name a few. I would also like to thank Milt Stegall and Coach Bobby Dyce for helping me at the start of my career in Winnipeg. Coach Dyce was the most honest and realest coaches I ever had. I truly appreciate that. I'm also grateful for those who supported and recognized my drive to succeed."

Bryant played 60 regular-season games over four seasons (2009-12) for the Red and White, recording 210 catches for 2,725 yards and 22 touchdowns as well as 16 carries for 46 yards and two majors. His 2010 season in Calgary was the best of his seven-year CFL career as he made 77 receptions for 1,167 yards and 15 touchdowns. Bryant's touchdown total in 2010 remains the highest by a Stamps receiver in the past 20 years and the third-best in franchise history.

The speedy receiver added 22 catches for 422 yards and four touchdowns in seven career post-season games for the Stamps. One of Bryant's most memorable moments with the Stamps was a 68-yard touchdown catch-and-run in the final minute of the 2012 Western Semi-Final as the Stamps rallied to defeat the Saskatchewan Roughriders.

"Romby was a talented and dependable playmaker," said Hufnagel. "He made a lot of big plays as a Stamp, possibly none bigger than the late fourth-quarter TD catch in the 2012 Semi-Final. Romby was a true professional and did a great job of getting himself ready to play, week in and week out. I congratulate Romby for his excellent career and am honoured he wishes to retire as a Stamp. It speaks volumes for the organization and his teammates. We all wish Romby great success with his future endeavours."

The Oklahoma City native started his career with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in 2008 and joined the Stamps in a Sept. 20, 2009, trade. Bryant and national receiver Arjei Franklin came to Calgary in exchange for national receiver Jabari Arthur, international receiver Titus Ryan, international defensive lineman Odell Willis and two draft picks.

Bryant left the Stampeders after the 2012 season and wound up his CFL career with one season in Toronto in 2013 and one season in Winnipeg in 2014. The 35-year-old University of Tulsa alum finishes with 331 receptions for 4,874 yards and 33 touchdowns as well as 23 carries for 70 yards and two scores.
