Calgary, AB - Matt Staples scored at 17:35 of overtime to give the Medicine Hat Tigers a 3-2 win on Sunday evening at the Scotiabank Saddledome.
After a scoreless first period, Travis Sanheim opened the scoring for Calgary before Steven Owre responded for the Tigers to knot the game at 1-1 after 40 minutes. Early in the third period, Dryden Hunt scored to give Medicine Hat the advantage before Hitmen rookie Jordy Stallard forced the extra frame, netting his second of the post-season.
Marek Langhamer made 39 saves to record the win while Mack Shields turned aside 47 of 50 shots for Calgary, setting a personal best for most saves in a playoff game.
The best-of-seven series, now even at 1-1, continues tomorrow, Monday, April 13, with Game 3 at the Scotiabank Saddledome (7:00 p.m.) before the Hitmen and Tigers return to Medicine Hat for Game 4 on April 15.
