Cleveland Monsters News Release
Calvin Pickard's 35 saves backstopped the Lake Erie Monsters (33-28-8-4) to a 4-1 victory and a two-game weekend sweep of the Adirondack Flames (34-31-6-2) at the Glens Falls Civic Center in Glens Falls, New York. Bruno Gervais, Kenny Ryan, Tomas Vincour and Reid Petryk scored for the Monsters, who are now three points behind Toronto and the eighth and final Western Conference playoff spot, with three games remaining. The Monsters are back in action on Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena against Grand Rapids at 7:00 p.m.
Bruno Gervais cut toward the net and one-timed a shot from the right circle past Flames goalie Doug Carr to give the Monsters a 1-0 lead on a power play goal with 52 seconds left in the first period. Tomas Vincour and Chris Bigras assisted on Gervais' third goal of the season. Calvin Pickard stopped all 10 Flames shots he faced in the opening frame a night after stopping a Monsters season-high 47 of 49 shots.
With 6:50 left in the second period, Turner Elson jammed the puck home during a scramble in front of Monsters goalie Calvin Pickard to tie the game 1-1 for Adirondack. The Monsters answered when Kenny Ryan turned a backhand toward the Adirondack net that rolled through Carr and in at 17:53 of the middle frame, giving the Monsters a 2-1 lead and Ryan his second goal in as many games. The goal was the 12th of the season for Ryan, and was unassisted.
At 5:11 of the third period with a power play winding down, Troy Bourke centered a perfect pass to Tomas Vincour in front of the net, and Vincour one-timed the puck home for his eighth goal of the season and third in as many games. Reid Petryk sealed the win with an empty-net goal with 50 seconds remaining to give the Monsters a 4-1 lead; the goal was his fourth of the season.
Pickard stopped 35 of 36 shots to improve to 21-16-9 on the season. Carr stopped 24 of 27 shots for Adirondack and is now 4-3-0.
