April 12, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manchester Monarchs News Release
BRIDGEPORT, CT - For the first time in franchise history, the Monarchs earned the AHL's Macgregor Kilpatrick Trophy for the most points in the league with a 4-0 victory over Bridgeport on Sunday at the Webster Bank Arena.
Patrik Bartosak stopped all 18 shots he faced for his second shutout win of the season (also, Mar. 1 vs. WOR). He has allowed one or no goals in five of his last eight appearances since the start of March.
Manchester (48-16-6-3) finished the season undefeated in four games against Bridgeport (27-38-7-1). The Monarchs extended their winning streak to three straight and have earned at least one point in each of their last seven games beginning on Mar. 29.
Michael Mersch scored his 20th goal of the season today. He has at least one point in eight of his last nine games beginning on Mar. 27, with eight goals and five assists in that time.
Colin Miller put Manchester on the board 1:23 into the game with a slap shot from the point. Alex Lintuniemi picked up an assist on the goal for his first professional point.
The Monarchs doubled their lead when Kevin Gravel scored his sixth goal of the season at 9:08 in the second. It was his first goal since Mar. 20 at Providence.
Mersch was awarded a penalty shot just 10 seconds into the third period and converted the goal. It was Mersch's second penalty shot opportunity of the season, improving to 1-for-2 on the year.
Scott Sabourin made the score 4-0 when he tallied a power-play goal at 17:48 in the third. It was his fourth goal of the season.
The Monarchs will return to the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night when they host Portland at 7 p.m. in VIP Cup action.
Notes:
Colin Miller's goal was his 50th point of the year (19 goals, 31 assists). It marks the first time a Monarchs defenseman reached at least 50 points in a season since Slava Voynov had 51 points in 2010-11. Miller (goal, assist) has multiple points in each of his last two games and has five points (2 goals, 3 assists) over his last four. Today was Manchester's fourth shutout win of the season and first since Mar. 1 vs. WOR. Alex Lintuniemi made his Monarchs debut today. He recorded an assist, one shot and was a plus-1.
