Mammoth Offense Quiet in Ward's Return

April 11, 2015 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Colorado Mammoth News Release

ROCHESTER, N.Y. - The Colorado Mammoth limited the Rochester Knighthawks to just one goal in a span of more than 23 minutes from the second to fourth quarters in Saturday's game at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester. Usually that bodes well for the team given the defensive effort. The challenge for Colorado was that its offense was held off the board for more than forty minutes as Rochester, despite just a single goal in the third, went on a 9-0 run to earn a 14-5 victory.

Goaltender Dillon Ward got the start after missing the last three games. He played 54:08, and was relieved by Alex Buque for a stint in the second. Ward made 28 saves in the loss.

The Mammoth managed just 34 shots on goal. Colorado captain John Grant, Jr. inched within two goals of tying Gary Gait for second on the NLL's all-time scoring list, and Cam Flint had his first tally in a Mammoth uniform. Jeremy Noble had a goal and two assists. Adam Jones scored two goals in a span of 40 seconds in the second quarter to move within two goals of his first career 40-goal season. He's also three points shy of a new single-season career-high.

Colorado fell behind 4-0 in the first 10:49 of the game before cutting Rochester's lead to 5-4 on Jones' second. It wouldn't get any closer.

Having already secured a home playoff game and a top-two seed in the West Division, Colorado has a rematch against Rochester on its home turf at Pepsi Center this Fri., April 17 at 7pm MT on 'Lacrosse Out Cancer' Night presented by Sarah Cannon Cancer Network at HealthONE. Tickets are on sale now.
