Lexington Legends News Release

(CHARLESTON, S.C.) Justin Kamplain and two relievers teamed up for a two-hit shutout as the Charleston RiverDogs blanked the Lexington Legends 2-0 Saturday night.

Charleston took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning when Jorge Mateo walked with one out, stole second and scored on Chris Breen's two-out single. The other run came in the fourth when Breen walked, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored when Gosuke Katoh, who had walked, was caught in a rundown between first and second.

Both Lexington hits came in the fifth inning against Kamplain. Wander Franco and Samir Duenez started the inning with singles, and Franco moved to third on an error by right fielder Austin Aune. After Brandon Downes lined out to second, Chad Johnson walked to load the bases. But Kamplain retired Carlos Garcia on a foul pop to the catcher, and Mike Hill grounded out, ending the inning.

Kamplain (1-0) worked the first six innings. He struck out six batters and walked one. Joey Maher worked an inning and two-thirds, and Cale Coshow recorded the final four outs to pick up his first save.

Charleston had just four hits the game. Lexington starter Nik Stephenson (0-1), who worked the first four innings, took the loss. Emilio Ogando relieved in the fifth and allowed one hit in four innings. He struck out five batters and walked one.

The Legends have taken two of the first three games of the series, which concludes Sunday in Charleston. Game time is 5:05 p.m.

The Legends will move on to Greenville for a three-game series beginning Monday night. The home opener is set for Thursday, April 16 against West Virginia.

Records: Lexington 2-1, Charleston 1-2
