Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Bakersfield, CA - Jarek Cunningham drove in four runs and Quakes' starter Johnathan Richy earned his first career win on Friday night, as Rancho Cucamonga improved to 2-0 for the first time since 2009 with a 7-1 win over the Bakersfield Blaze at Sam Lynn Ballpark in Bakersfield.
Cunningham, who did not appear in Thursday's opening-night win over the Blaze, finished with three hits, including a pair of two-run doubles, leading Rancho's ten-hit attack.
Richy (1-0), who didn't record a single decision in 12 appearances after being drafted in 2014, fired five strong innings, allowing just one run on three hits, earning the victory.
Cunningham put the Quakes on the board in the third, as he drove home Devan Ahart and Joey Curletta with a drive off the center-field fence off Bakersfield starter Ryan Yarbrough (0-1).
The Blaze got their lone run of the night in the bottom of the inning, as Tyler O'Neill's infield single brought home Justin Seager, making it 2-1.
That's as close as the Blaze would get, as the Quakes added one in the fourth and then four more in the sixth to put the game away. Cunningham capped the four-run frame with his second two-bagger of the night, making it 7-1 against reliever Will Mathis.
Rancho's bullpen was strong for a second straight night, as Dan Tillman and Ramon Benjamin combined to throw four scoreless relief innings.
The Quakes (2-0) look to remain undefeated on Saturday night, sending Zach Bird (0-0) to the mound against Bakersfield's Dan Altavilla (0-0) at 7:15pm.
After a seven-game road trip to start the season, the Quakes will return to LoanMart Field for their home opener on Thursday, April 16th at 7:05pm. Opening Night at LoanMart Field will feature a post-game Fireworks Display, thanks to Boston's in Rancho Cucamonga. Thursday will also be a Thirsty Thursday, featuring $2 Pepsi products, $3 domestic drafts and $4 premium drafts, wine, champagne and margaritas. In addition, fans will take home a 2015 Magnet Schedule, thanks to Allstar KIA. Tickets are available at (909) 481-5000 or online at rcquakes.com.
