Charleston RiverDogs News Release

CHARLESTON, SC - The Charleston RiverDogs' relief pitchers did not allow an earned run to the Lexington Legends for the second night in a row but once again, their effort was not enough to produce a victory as they fell 3-1 Friday night at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park.

Southpaw Chaz Hebert held Lexington scoreless through the first four innings and struck out six batters. Lexington finally broke the scoreless tie in the fifth inning when catcher Kyle Pollock ripped an RBI double to left field, driving in third baseman Mike Hill who led off the frame with a single.

The Legends (2-0) added to their lead with two unearned runs in the sixth inning. The RiverDogs (0-2) committed two errors defensively, allowing designated hitter Ryan O'Hearn and first baseman Samir Duenez to score.

Lexington's starting pitcher Matt Tenuta retired nine of the first 10 RiverDogs he faced. He held the 'Dogs scoreless in five innings of work to earn his first win of the season.

Charleston's only run came in the bottom of the ninth inning. Abiatal Avelino reached base on a throwing error by second baseman Corey Toups. Avelino then proceeded to steal second and third base before crossing home when Pollock made an errant throw back to the pitcher Matt Strahm.

Nonetheless, Strahm worked around the error-laden inning and picked up his first save of the young season.
