Tampa Yankees News Release

TAMPA - The Tampa Yankees (1-1) lost a late lead as the Lakeland Flying Tigers (1-1) came back to win 5-3 on Friday night at George M. Steinbrenner Field.

RHP Rookie Davis had a bumpy start in his T-Yanks debut, but settled down by retiring the final 17 batters he faced. The 14th round pick in 2011 tossed six innings, allowing one earned run on three hits. Davis struck out six and did not allow a walk.

The Flying Tigers jumped out to an early lead as Jiwan James doubled to begin the game. An errant bobble by Ericson Leonora in left field pushed James to third, who later scored on a single by Javier Betancourt.

In the bottom of the inning, the Yankees responded with three runs of their own. Tyler Wade singled and scored on a double by Miguel Andujar. With two outs, Matt Snyder slapped a go-ahead two-run home run to the opposite field in left.

RHP Andrew Bailey made his first appearance with Tampa, relieving Davis in the seventh. The 2009 American League rookie of the year dealt a scoreless inning before back-to-back singles in the eighth forced manager Dave Bialas to make a change.

RHP Philip Walby (0-1) inherited the runners and allowed both to score. Jared Reaves crossed the plate on a passed ball by Radley Haddad and back-to-back walks forced in the tying run. Southpaw Evan Rutckyj entered in relief and surrendered the go-ahead RBI single to Francisco Martinez. The fourth run of the frame scored as Leonora bobbled the Martinez single in left field.

RHP Montreal Robertson (1-0) earned the win for Lakeland, pitching two scoreless frames in the sixth and seventh. RHP Zac Reininger picked up the save, working around a pair of hits in the final two scoreless innings.

Snyder reached base three times, going 2-for-3 with a walk. Andujar went 2-for-3, picking up his first extra-base hit and RBI as a Tampa Yankee.

The series continues on Saturday at 6:00 p.m. in Lakeland at Joker Marchant Stadium. RHP Jonathan Holder is scheduled to pitch for Tampa against Lakeland southpaw Ryan Longstreth.
