Modesto Nuts News Release

Lake Elsinore, CA. - After a first-inning home run by Rosell Herrera, the Lake Elsinore Storm scored 10 unanswered runs to send the Modesto Nuts to a 10-3 season-opening loss at The Diamond on Thursday night.

After allowing the solo home run with two outs in the first, Storm starter Ryan Butler (W, 1-0) settled in and tossed five innings for the win in his first professional start. Butler allowed five total hits, one walk and struck out one.

Antonio Senzatela (L, 0-1) pitched a perfect first inning in his start for the Nuts before running into trouble in the second inning. Senzatela walked Jeremy Baltz with one out. The next hitter, Marcus Davis, hit a groundball to second. The throw to second base was dropped by shortstop Zach Osborne as the ball, his glove and the runner all met simultaneously. Osborne was charged with an error. Nick Schulz followed with a RBI single and Yale Rosen had a RBI fielder's choice before Senzatela was pulled with two outs in the second inning. Both runs he allowed were unearned. The righty gave up two hits, walked two and struck out one.

In the fourth, the Storm opened things up with a five-run frame. The scoring was sparked by a two-run homer by Nick Schulz who finished with three RBI. A wild pitch brought in two runs and Auston Bousfield had a RBI double.

Offensively, Raimel Tapia had two hits and a RBI. Zach Osborne recorded three hits, including a double, and scored a run. Michael Benjamin, Jr. had two hits and a RBI as well.

Game two of the four-game series is Friday night at 7:00 p.m. Righty Konner Wade will pitch for Modesto. Righty Zech Lemond will be on the mound for Lake Elsinore. Tune in live online at 6:55 p.m. on ModestoNuts.com.
