Opening Night Game Goes to Asheville, 4-3

Rome, GA - The Asheville Tourists defeated the Rome Braves 4-3 Thursday night to open the 2015 season at State Mutual Stadium before a crowd of 3,683.Asheville jumped on the board in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Drew Weeks (1). The Tourists added two unearned runs in the fifth, all after two outs. Yonathan Daza singled and reached third on two Braves' errors. Omar Carrizales reached on a bunt single to score Daza but went all the way to third on another error. He later scored on a single by Wes Rogers making it a 3-0 game.

The Braves made it a 3-2 contest in the fifth. Braxton Davidson led off the inning with his first home run of the season. Joseph Daris walked, stole second, and later scored on a wild pitch. Asheville scored a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Henry Garcia for the 4-2 score. Rome cut the lead to 4-3 in the eighth on a run scoring triple by Keith Curcio but Asheville pitching held on for the win.

Zach Jemiola (1-0) gets the win and Matt Povse (0-1) the loss. Povse pitched well on a losing night striking out seven in five innings of work allowing two earned runs. Josh Michalec earns his first save.
