Saint John Sea Dogs News Release

MONTREAL - The Saint John Sea Dogs have won the right to select first overall in the 2015 Quebec Major Junior Hockey League Entry Draft.

The Sea Dogs were triumphant in the QMJHL's draft lottery, held today, a process involving Saint John and the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. The league's two non-playoff teams - Acadie-Bathurst and Drummondville - were eligible to participate in the lottery, but the Sea Dogs own the Voltigeurs' first-round selection. Acadie-Bathurst holds the second pick in the first round.

It's the second year in a row Saint John have won the lottery. The Sea Dogs are also slated to pick ninth and tenth in the first round.

"It's very exciting for us as an organization to have the first overall pick again this year," said Sea Dogs General Manager Darrell Young. "There are several players with high-end talent available. With the number-one pick, and three choices in the top ten, we've got flexibility to improve our club significantly."

It's the fifth time the Sea Dogs have owned the first pick. Defenceman Alex Grant became the first-ever Sea Dog when he was chosen first overall in 2005. Fellow blueliners Yann Sauve (2006), Simon Despres (2007) and Luke Green (2014) were also selected in the number one slot.

"Our future continues to look very bright," said Sea Dogs President Wayne Long. "Having the first overall pick for the second straight year will add another important piece to our young team."

The 2015 QMJHL Entry Draft will be held Saturday, June 6th, at the Palais des Sports Leopold-Drolet in Sherbrooke.
