Alabama Hammers Game 3 Preview

April 8, 2015 - Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL)
Alabama Hammers News Release

The Alabama Hammers will have to be in high gear mode to face the onslaught of the visiting Nashville Venom this Saturday, April 11, as the Hammers celebrate its home opener at the Von Braun Center. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m.

The Hammers surprised the Venom in Nashville at the season opening game 34-26 on March 27. The Venom (1-1) are defending Professional Indoor Football League (PIFL) champions and still have a bevy of players from the title team. The Venom rebounded from the earlier loss with a 55-28 victory over LeHigh Valley. Meanwhile, the Hammers (1-1) lost its second contest of the season to Richmond 60-45. Both teams are expected to be much improved.

"They made some changes and improved greatly in their second game while we did not improve, so we'll have to play much better than we did in week one," said Scott Sharp head coach of the Hammers.

The Hammers come into its home opener averaging 40-points per outing. The offense is led by a receiving corps of Mico McSwain (19 receptions, 3 touchdowns) and Charle McClain (15 receptions, 3 touchdowns). The two are found on their routes by quarterback Garrett Sufphen who has hit for 46-percent of his passes with 9 touchdowns.

"We may have some changes within our team. We learn as we go and hope we learned from last week's game," said Sharp. "We hope to put on a good show and pull off a win for the hometown folks. It'll be great to play at home for one time instead of on the road."

The game can be heard on the Hammers Radio Network including WAFN-FM, 92.7 Fun Radio-Arab, WZZN-FM, 97.7 The Zone-Huntsville and WWIC-AM, 1050-Scottsboro. Michael St. John and Steve Moulton will call the action.
