Tri-City ValleyCats News Release

TROY, NY - The Tri-City ValleyCats, Class A Short Season affiliate of the Houston Astros, will host their 2 nd Annual Education Day at Joseph L. Bruno Stadium on Wednesday, June 17 at 10 a.m., as part of an exhibition game versus the Albany Dutchmen of the Perfect Game Collegiate Baseball League.

The game will coincide with an all-encompassing educational field trip opportunity for local schools, focused on character development, anti-bullying facets, and traditional educational subject matter as it relates to the game of baseball.

Last year's Education Day drew a sell-out crowd of over 5,500 fans, with 34 different Capital Region schools attending the game. Several local organizations helped make these field trips possible for the schools, including Regeneron Pharmaceuticals, Transfinder, and St. Peter's Health Partners' Sexual Assault & Crime Victims Assistance Program.

Due to the format of this year's schedule, the ValleyCats were unable to host an Education Day during the regular season but worked with the Astros to plan a pre-season exhibition game. This game will allow the 'Cats to continue to grow this program while also providing an opportunity to reach out to another baseball team in the Capital Region.

"Based upon the success of last year's event, we are thrilled to continue this educational initiative. It's a great way to educate local students outside the classroom in a fun and safe environment." said ValleyCats Vice President / General Manager Rick Murphy. "The exhibition format has also allowed us to invite the Albany Dutchmen to play a game at "The Joe" which is a unique event for the Capital Region baseball community."

"This is a great opportunity to not only showcase talented baseball prospects, but also use baseball as an educational tool for local students," said Albany Dutchmen Vice President / General Manager Jason Brinkman.

The ValleyCats have created a curriculum which is available online to the schools in preparation of the event. Additional activities on Education Day will provide students with real world applications in a range of academic areas including mathematics, science, history and geography.

Schools interested in attending should contact a ValleyCats representative. Those interested in purchasing individual tickets for the game should contact the ValleyCats Box Office at 518-629-CATS. For more information, visit tcvalleycats.com/educationday.
