Raiders Drop Close One to Lions

RICHMOND, Va. - The Richmond Raiders (0-2) lost their second straight game to the Columbus Lions (1-0) on Sunday afternoon in Georgia. After leading most of the game, the Raiders allowed the Lions to score two late touchdowns and an uno in the fourth quarter, clinching the Lions victory.

WR Gerron "Scooby" Bryant began the scoring for the Raiders midway through the first quarter, allowing the Raiders to jump out to an early 6-0 lead and a 29-23 halftime lead. In the second half, the two teams would trade touchdowns, with neither team leading by more than two touchdowns at any point. Then, with 26 seconds left, the Lions would take the lead for good off of a John Harris touchdown and Lindsey Wolfe uno. Former Raiders quarterback and current Lions QB Antwon Young completed 50 percent of his passes for 305 yards and six touchdowns. Young made big plays when he had to in guiding the Columbus Lions to a 52-50 win over the Richmond Raiders.

QB Jonathan Bane led the Raiders offense in his first indoor start. He completed 25 of 41 passes for 309 yards, one interception, and 7 touchdowns. Bane spread the scoring amongst four players "" Bryant (2), WR Herb Jones (2), WR Devin Wilson (2) and WR Ronald Davis (1). Not to be outdone, the Raiders defense also recorded a safety in the second quarter after the Lions were called for a penalty in the end zone. Kicker T.C. Stevens, who last week recorded a game-high nine points including three unos, hit five extra points and an uno to round out the scoring. WR Devin Wilson hauled in nine catches for 134 yards, and DB Maurice Thorne posted six tackles in the game. This was Richmond's fourth straight loss in Columbus and marks the second consecutive season they will start 0-2.

The Raiders will return to action in their home opener at the Richmond Coliseum on Saturday, April 4 against the Alabama Hammers (1-0) for MeadWestvaco Youth Development Night. The game will also feature an Easter egg hunt at half time for young fans.
