HarbourCats Name Advisory Board

April 7, 2015 - West Coast League (WCL)
Victoria HabourCats News Release

VICTORIA, B.C. - The Victoria HarbourCats baseball team is one that relies on community integration on many levels, leading to engagement with influential people throughout the South Island region. With that clearly in mind, the team has set up an Advisory Board that will meet periodically and serve as both resource and advocate for HarbourCats staff and management.

"We are honored to have such great friends in all corners of this community, people who support the HarbourCats in a variety of ways, and this is a way we can effectively involve those who care greatly about the continued success of baseball in Victoria," said General Manager Jim Swanson.

"These are people who more than see the value, and recognize the community has stepped forward to say it wants baseball to be strong. The fact the HarbourCats led the West Coast League in attendance in 2014, just the second year, and that the attendance mark came in a year where the team had a sub-.500 record overall and at home -- we think that speaks to this market and the tremendous fan, corporate and media support in Victoria. Certainly, it is our fans and the companies we partner with who set that table for us. We think this franchise is set to grow even more - that's what our fans and our partners tell us."

The Advisory Board will first meet as a group on April 21, though team staff and management have been engaging with these contributors for some time.

Named to the Victoria HarbourCats Advisory Board are:

STEVE SINCLAIR, Oak Bay Marine Group - Former Major League pitcher with the Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays, now in management at OBMG, brings a valuable mix of business acumen and experience as a player who reached the top rung in the baseball world.

JOHN POLLARD, Rogers Media (KISS-FM/OCEAN-FM) - Active with Central Saanich Little League board, and rep for Rogers Media; well-known in the community for past involvement with various media companies and events, including Crime Stoppers, and minor baseball and hockey.

n KELLY MANN, President and CEO, B.C. Games Society - Highly respected for his work on B.C. Games events, founder of Kidsport Victoria board, tireless worker on behalf of sport in Victoria and across B.C.
