WUERFEL PARK - The Traverse City Beach Bums are excited to announce the signing of right-handed pitcher Luis DeJesus. The former NY-Penn League All-Star has spent the last four seasons pitching in the Cleveland Indians' organization.
"He'll come in and be competing for a slot in the rotation" said Beach Bums' manager Dan Rohn. "He has lots of experience and we're looking forward to having him here."
DeJesus was selected in the 11th round of the 2011 MLB Amateur Draft by Cleveland and started his career that summer in the rookie-level Arizona League. In 2012, he elevated to SS-A Mahoning Valley where he stood out, posting a 4-2 record, 2.02 ERA in 14 starts. In 80.1 innings pitching, he surrendered just 57 hits. He was named to the 2012 NY-Penn League All-Star team.
The 2013 season had DeJesus move up to low-A Lake County of the Midwest League. He made 27 appearances, going 6-11 with a 5.97 ERA. In 2014, he spent time in Mahoning Valley, Lake County and also at high-A Carolina. A native of Diboll, TX, he was the ace of the staff at Lufkin (TX) High School before going to Angelina College. His proud parents are Alberto and Gloria. In his spare time he enjoys bowling and fishing.
The 10th season of Beach Bums baseball begins Friday May 15 at Evansville at 6:35pm with the home opener scheduled for Friday May 22nd vs. Windy City at 7:05pm.
All games will be broadcast live on 98.1 The Bear.
The Wuerfel Park offices are open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday. The Beach Bums will play 51 games at Wuerfel Park in 2015 starting with the home opener and a FANtastic Fireworks Friday on May 22 at 7:05 pm. Season ticket packages are now available! Fans are invited to come on out to the ballpark and personally choose their seat or call 231-943-0100 for more information.
