Tri-City Americans News Release

Kennewick, WA - The WHL announced today Tri-City's Taylor Vickerman is a finalist for the WHL's Humanitarian of the Year award.

Vickerman is nominated along with the Eastern Conference Finalist, Tyler Wong of the Lethbridge Hurricanes. The winner will be announced at the WHL awards ceremony in Calgary on Wednesday, May 6.

Taylor, a native of Kennewick, Wash., has been active in the community throughout the season. His big project this season was teaming up with teammates Beau McCue and Justin Hamonic to launch the 'Americans' Faceoff Against Bullying' campaign, visiting local elementary schools to spread acceptance and promote the issue of bullying.

"It's such a prevalent thing these days in schools around the world and it's affected all of us whether we know it or not," Vickerman said about the project in a press release. "I love going into the school and spending time with the kids and if I can help them in any way possible, in the case of bullying awareness, I'll do my best to try to make it fun but most importantly, try to put an end to bullying."

He was also involved in many other projects, some including building houses for Habitat for Humanity, Edith Bishel's "Dinner in the Dark" event and visiting the Tri-Cities Cancer Center.

"It's a great honor and I'd like to thank the team for their support. I'd like to thank God," Vickerman said. "I appreciate everyone that has helped me and love being a part of this community."

"We are very proud of Taylor," Americans Governor/GM Bob Tory said. "His commitment to our team and community is unparalleled."
