Rockets' Jackson Whistle Named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week

Toronto, ON - The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Jackson Whistle of the Kelowna Rockets is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the first week of playoff action ending March 29.

Whistle was perfect in goal for the Rockets posting back-to-back shutout victories to open their Western Conference Quarter-Final series against the Tri-City Americans. On Friday night in Game 1 of the series he made 18 saves and earned third star honours in the 6-0 victory, then stopped all 30 shots he faced in Game 2 on Saturday claiming second star honours in the 3-0 win. The Rockets take to the road as the series continues with Game 3 on Tuesday and Game 4 on Wednesday night.

Whistle, a 19-year-old from West Kelowna, BC, is playing in his fourth WHL season. He finished the regular season campaign with a record of 34-10-5-0 including four shutouts for the Western Conference leading Rockets. His goals-against-average of 2.55 ranked third in the WHL while his .909 save percentage ranked seventh.

Also considered for the award this week was Jake Smith who helped the North Bay Battalion open their first round playoff series with two straight wins against the Kingston Frontenacs including a shutout victory along with a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .956. In the QMJHL, Philippe Cadorette backstopped the Baie-Comeau Drakkar to a 2-0 series lead against the Saint John Sea Dogs posting a goals-against-average of 1.00 and save percentage of .962.
