Austin Aztex News Release

AUSTIN, Texas (Tuesday, March 31, 2015) - Coming off a 2-0 victory against the Colorado Springs Switchbacks in their USL debut, the Austin Aztex (1-0-0) will face the Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2 (0-1-0) on USL's lone game Wednesday night at House Park. Kickoff is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. CT.

During their season opener versus the Switchbacks, the Aztex jumped to the lead after Tony Rocha made a deft move to free himself in space and hit a long ball down the left side to forward Sainey Touray, who became the first player to score as an Aztex in USL after a strong individual effort. In the second half, super sub Trevin Caesar showed speed of his own and hit a strong, low shot into the back of the net for the second and final score.

The Aztex showed strong midfield play during their opener, gaining possession with their quick passes and speed. Midfielders Lance Rozeboom, Tony Rocha, and Guaraci will look to continue with their precise touches and key movements off the ball to feed the likes of forwards Touray and Kris Tyrpak with opportunities to score.

Defensively, captain Kyle Hoffer paired well with Kalen Ryden on the backline alongside Max Gunderson and Mikey Ambrose to contain the opposition and help Aztex goalkeeper Devin Perales keep a shutout. Perales stepped up with two big saves during the final minutes of Saturday's game to help maintain the shutout.

Whitecaps FC 2 will look to rebound after a tough loss to start the season. They fell 4-0 to the hands of Cascadia rival Seattle Sounders FC 2 5&utm_mediumemail&utm_term0_41d5067e35-f35b21d3b0-387710025) in Seattle on Sunday. After 90 minutes of play, the 'Caps were not able to contain the Sounders 2 attacking duo of forwards Andy Craven and Darwin Jones, who combined for four goals and two assists on the night.

WFC2 feature a team full of young talent, with all but two players in the starting lineup aged 22 years old or younger. Head Coach Alan Koch also features five players who graduated from the club's residency program.

One of the players that can cause problems to the Aztex backline is Canadian forward Brett Levis 25), number 46. He made a good impression during his debut on the left wing, sending dangerous crosses towards the goal area. Levis nearly scored a goal when he sent a strike right off the edge of the area, ultimately being saved by the Sounders 2 goalkeeper.
