Vancouver Stealth News Release

Vancouver, BC (Sunday, March 29, 2015) - The Vancouver Stealth (4-7) won all the major categories on the stats sheet, however they ran into a red hot goaltender, dropping a 12-6 decision to the Colorado Mammoth (7-5) at the Pepsi Centre on Sunday night.

The Stealth had more shots, loose balls and face-off wins but couldn't find a way past netminder Alex Buque, who was making his first career NLL start, stopping 48 shots for the Mammoth.

Tyler Digby scored a hat-trick for Vancouver and Rhys Duch led the team with four points (1g, 3a) as the Stealth remain in third place in the West, one-and-a-half games ahead of Calgary.

Like last week, the Stealth got off to another good start as Digby scored two goals in 19 seconds, both on the powerplay to put Vancouver up 2-0 midway through the first quarter. Colorado would counter with three straight goals, all on the man advantage to lead 3-2 after the opening quarter.

The Mammoth would take advantage of more undisciplined play from the Stealth as John Grant Jr. scored a powerplay goal 43 seconds into the second quarter. Vancouver forward Corey Small cut the lead to 4-3 when he dove and put one past Buque at the 1:54 mark. Alex Turner would counter for the home team as Colorado went into halftime with a 5-3 lead.

Colorado started off the second half with three straight goals before Vancouver would answer with back-to-back goals from Digby and Duch to trim the Mammoth lead to 8-5 after three quarters.

Colorado outscored the Stealth 4-1 in the fourth quarter with Joel McCready scoring the lone Stealth goal as Vancouver dropped its third straight game. The Mammoth were led by John Grant Jr. who had a game-high seven points (4g, 3a) and Eli McLaughlin chipped in with six points (2g, 4a) as Colorado picked up their seventh win of the season and sit one-half game behind Edmonton for first place in the West.

Vancouver has an important divisional home-and-home next weekend against the Edmonton Rush. On Friday, April 3, the Stealth will hit the road to play Edmonton at 6:30PM PST at Rexall Place before returning home the following day on Saturday, April 4 for a 7:00PM PST face-off at the Langley Events Centre as the Rush make their one and only trip to the LEC this season. The first 1,000 fans will receive a Stealth Coin Bank, sponsored by G&F Financial Group.
