LA Galaxy II News Release
CARSON, Calif. - LA Galaxy II (0-1-1) fell to Sacramento Republic FC (1-1-0), 3-2 Saturday night at StubHub Center's Track & Field Stadium as goals from Daniel Steres and Travis Bowen were not enough to earn points on the night.
Los Dos opened the scoring in the 9th minute of play as Steres headed home a free kick from French midfielder Andre Auras. The captain beat his man inside the box and fired a header to the right corner of the net past goalkeeper Patrick McLain.
Shortly after, Sacramento Republic equalized after the referee blew the whistle on Lee Nishanian inside the box to give Republic FC the penalty. Octavio Guzman stepped up and slotted it home to level the score. Just over 10 minutes later, Guzman gave the visitors the lead after the referee awarded another penalty to Sacramento.
The second half saw a rejuvenated Galaxy II attack as the home side scored the game-tying goal in the 67th minute of play. Defender Joe Franco played a ball down the right line to LA Galaxy Homegrown Player Raul Mendiola, who played a perfect pass inside the box to an oncoming Travis Bowen. Bowen launched a shot into the upper netting with one touch as Los Dos tied the match.
In stoppage time, Sacramento Republic FC found the dramatic game-winning goal from Rodrigo Lopez, who was assisted by David Estrada. Estrada found space behind the Los Dos defense before passing to Lopez in front of the goal as Lopez tapped it at the face of the net.
Los Dos are in action next this Thursday, April 2 when they host Arizona United SC at StubHub Center's Track & Field Stadium beginning at 7:30 p.m. PT.
