Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins News Release

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. - Jayson Megna's shorthanded goal late in the first period proved to be the game-winner in a 3-1 victory for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins over the Binghamton Senators on Friday at Floyd L. Maines Veterans Memorial Arena.

The Penguins jumped out to a 1-0 lead 3:13 into the first period after Scott Wilson pounced on a loose puck in the Senators zone and threw a quick wrist shot toward Scott Greenham. The Binghamton goalie was able to make the initial save, but the rebound was inadvertently put into the net by a Senators defender and Wilson was credited with his 16th goal of the season.

Megna doubled Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's edge late in the same period, scoring his 20th of the year just eight seconds into a Binghamton power play. Andrew Ebbett chipped a puck up to Megna at center ice, where he skated past the Binghamton defense and put a backhand shot over the blocker of Greenham with 2:27 left until the intermission.

The score stood until the 11:37 mark of the third, one second after a Wilkes-Barre/Scranton man-advantage expired. Defenseman Taylor Chorney weaved his way to the left hashmark before firing a shot that was stopped in front, but the floating puck was swatted in by Carter Rowney to put the Penguins up, 3-0.

Max McCormick foiled the shutout bid for Penguins goaltender Matt Murray on a tip-in goal with 4:22 remaining in regulation. Murray finished with 25 saves on 26 shots to raise his record to 22-8-3 on the season. The rookie goaltender is 11-0-1 in his last 12 starts and 17-2-1 in his last 20.

Greenham suffered just his third loss in his last nine appearances, stopping 24-of-27.

The Penguins complete a three-game road stretch when they face-off against the Lehigh Valley Phantoms on Saturday, March 28 at 7:05 pm. Listen in on WILK Newsradio or watch online at AHL Live.
