Sioux Falls, SD-On the same day he committed to St. Lawrence University, Stampede goaltender Art Brey turned away all 18 shots faced and help lift the Stampede to a 4-0 victory over the Fargo Force in front of 5,234 fans at the PREMIER Center Thursday night. It was the first home game since February 21st for the Herd who were coming off a 5-5-0 ten-game road trip. The win improved the Stampede's record to 29-20-5 and put their magic number to clinch a playoff spot at six points. Mikey Eyssimont scored against his former team while the Herd also got goals from Cooper Marody, Parker Tumoie and Joey Raats to improve to 16-6-3 on home ice. It marked the second straight shutout for the Herd over Fargo and improved their record to 15-1-0 over the last two seasons over the Force.
The game got off to a somewhat slow start as both teams adjusted to the ice at the PREMIER Center that has been covered for over a month. It didn't take too long though for the ice to get broken in though for the Herd who got a goal from Mikey Eyssimont 7:12 in to take a 1-0 lead. Eyssimont took the puck behind the net and wrapped around the goal, sliding the puck under the left pad of Force goaltender Mathias Israelsson for his first goal against his former team. Minutes later the Herd found themselves on a 5-on-3 advantage and Cooper Marody took advantage. Kieffer Bellows blasted a shot from the right point and the puck bounced perfectly to Marody who was just left of the net and quickly tapped the puck into the empty net to give Sioux Falls a 2-0 advantage. The Herd outshot the Force 11-4 in the period.
The Herd continued to control the game in the second and took a 3-0 lead when Parker Tuomie scored just 5:40 into the period. Tuomie took the puck deep in the right wing corner skating just inside the circle and then wristed a shot that deflected off a Fargo skate and into the back of the net. Art Brey saw 10 shots in the period and was solid between the pipes, keeping the Force off the board. Sioux Falls outshot the Force 13-10 in the period and took their three-goal lead into the locker room.
The Stampede controlled much of the third period and never really allowed the Force the chance to get back into the game. The game was put away for good at 17:18 when Joey Raats fired a shot into an empty net and the Herd earned a 4-0 victory. Sioux Falls outshot the Force 32-18 on the night and went 1-for-3 on the power play while Fargo was 0-for-4.
Sioux Falls returns to action Friday night at the PREMIER Center when they host the Bloomington Thunder at 7:05 PM. It is also Modern Woodmen/Special Olympics South Dakota night.
