Knighthawks Supporting Michelle Fines

March 26, 2015 - National Lacrosse League (NLL)
Rochester Knighthawks News Release

The Rochester Knighthawks are encouraging fans to support Michelle Fines, a member of the lacrosse community, at Saturday's game against the Edmonton Rush. Michelle, who is the sister of former Knighthawks player Kevin Fines and the partner of Edmonton Rush and former Knighthawks goalie Aaron Bold, was recently diagnosed with Stage 4 bone cancer.

The Knighthawks will donate a portion of the proceeds from Saturday's 50-50 raffle to #FundsForFines. The contest on Saturday, March 28th is a 7:30 p.m. start at Connors & Ferris Field at The Blue Cross Arena.

"We were touched by Michelle's story and inspired by her determination to fight this deadly disease," said Knighthawks president Lewis Staats. "This story hits close to home with Aaron and Kevin being part of the Knighthawks family. We offer our support and prayers to Michelle, Aaron and their families during this challenging time."

The 31-year-old Fines is already a cancer survivor having beat breast cancer in 2010. However, after being cancer free for four years, an MRI revealed the cancer had returned and spread to her bones. Aaron and Michelle are exploring all their options and will incur travel and medical expenses. To donate, please visit her You Care fundraising page.

"It is a shame that not only Michelle, but everyone else and their families, have to go through this," Bold told the Edmonton Journal. "Cancer is very challenging. Michelle and I want to express a huge 'thank you' to the entire lacrosse community and especially everyone in Edmonton. It is has been overwhelming and we truly appreciate it."
