San Diego Sockers News Release

CZECHING IN ON THE OPPONENT

The Czech Republic enters tonight's game in excellent position to advance to the knockout stage of the WMF World Cup, having already collected four points in two games. The Czechs rallied for a 5-5 tie against El Salvador on Monday then beat Kazakhstan 7-4 on Tuesday. Team captain Jakub Slunecko leads the Czech Republic with five points (2g/3a).

FANS TURN OUT

A crowd of 3,128 fans was in attendance at Citizens Business Bank Arena for Monday night's Group A opening games. The crowd grew to 3.574 on Tuesday, for a total of 6.682 fans in two days to cheer on World Cup action in Ontario.

TWO GREAT KEEPERS IN THE NET

Team USA is lucky to have two great goalkeepers on the roster, and both have seen action in each of the first two Group A games. Danny Waltman, who is a captain on the team, has started both games and earned wins. Meanwhile, Rochester Lancers keeper Joey Kapinos has become the USA "closer", working the fourth quarter of both games, including a three save/no goal performance against El Salvador.

BIG BOMBER

On a team full of players from the top teams in the MASL, it was a member of the Wichita B-52s who has led the United States in goals. Matt Clare, who finished 10th in the league in scoring (35 goals, 13 assists in 17 games), had team USA's first hat trick of the tournament as the Americans beat Kazakhstan, 10-1 and added a pair of goals in a 9-3 win over El Salvador Tuesday in Ontario.

TEAM USA TAKES GROUP A LEAD

A 9-3 victory on Tuesday night at the Citizens Business Bank Arena moved the U.S. National Arena Soccer Team to 2-0 in Group A play, clinching a quarterfinal berth. The winner of USA-Czech Republic will win the group.

CHILES PACING U.S. OFFENSE

The captain of the San Diego Sockers and a co-captain (along with goalkeeper Danny Waltman) for the USNAST, Kraig Chiles is leading Team USA both in the locker room and on the field. The first-team all-MASL forward has four goals and four assists (eight points) in two games so far in the tournament. Chiles contributed two goals and three assists to the U.S. 9-3 win over El Salvador on Tuesday.
