Brampton Beast News Release

BRAMPTON, ON - The Brampton Beast came out looking to teach the Reading Royals a lesson about playing at the Powerade Centre on Sundays, but despite wearing their Canadian-themed alternate jerseys were unable to contain the Royals goal scoring onslaught, losing by a final score of 8-3.

David Ling and Justin Donati led the way for the Beast with a goal and an assist each, while Parker Van Buskirk made his Beast debut, making 15 saves in the process.

It was team picture day at the Powerade Centre, with the first 1000 fans receiving a team picture. After the game, the Beast hosted their free post game skate with the team, with fans getting the opportunity to get their pictures signed by their favourite Beast players.

The Royals struck early in the first period, when just 1:49 into the frame Michael Carruso fired a shot on goal that was kicked into the slot by Van Buskirk. Olivier Labelle jumped on the rebound and fired it into the back of the net for an early 1-0 lead. Towards the end of the period after Dean Willmott went to the box for holding, the Royals power play immediately went to work. Just 14 seconds into the man advantage, Brett Flemming fired a point shot that was deflected off of Labelle's skate in front for a 2-0 Reading lead going into the second.

The second period was run and gun for both teams. Just 1:35 into the frame, Mike Marcou took a pass in the slot and beat Van Buskirk for a 3-0 Royals lead. After both teams settled down and traded chances, the game broke wide open. With just over five minutes left in the frame, Tyson Fawcett took out his man in the corner and passed the puck to an open David Ling. Ling sent a one-touch pass cross-crease to an open Justin Donati, who slid the puck into the back of the net to reduce the deficit to two. Just 36 seconds after that, Jeff Brown fired a shot on goal that was kicked out by Connor Knapp. Jason Pitton jumped on the rebound and the Beast alternate captain made no mistake, potting his 22nd of the year to make it 3-2.

Only 15 seconds after that, the Royals' David Marshall broke into the Beast zone and fired one into the net that chased Van Buskirk from the Beast goal. With over a minute remaining in the period, Matt Hatch cut in front of the net, deked and slid the puck through the legs of a sprawling Ryan DeMelo for a 5-2 Royals lead heading into the third.

The Royals added two goals in just over a minute to begin the third period before notching another at 5:57 of the period. David Ling fired one home with just over two minutes remaining in the game to seal the 8-3 defeat.

The action continues on Thursday March 26, Business Networking Night at the Powerade Centre where fans have the opportunity to mingle with industry professionals. Friday March 27 is Star Wars Episode II, where the Beast will reveal their Lucas Films-approved Star Wars jerseys and fans have the opportunity to buy them during a live auction directly following the game! Sunday March 29 is the Frozen Musical, where before the game, the Beast will host a Frozen Musical performance at the Powerade Centre. Fans who buy a ticket to the Beast game gain free admittance to the musical and meet and greet with Elsa and Anna.
