Wolves Outlast Barons in OT, 2-1

March 21, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Oklahoma City Barons News Release

Ty Rattie scored the game-winner in overtime as the Chicago Wolves skated past the Oklahoma City Barons 2-1 Saturday night at the Cox Convention Center.

Skating at three-on-three 3:46 into the overtime period, Chicago's Magnus Paajarvi won a faceoff in the neutral zone and spun around defending OKC forward Jason Williams to create a 2-on-0 rush with Rattie. As the pair skated toward Barons goalie Laurent Brossoit, Paajarvi sent a pass to Rattie in the right side of the slot, where Rattie wristed a shot through the pads of Brossoit to give Oklahoma City its second overtime loss in as many days and third consecutive defeat.

The Barons managed to earn a standings point by forcing overtime with goal by Brad Hunt at 16:02 of the third period, when the Barons defenseman took a pass in the right circle from Josh Winquist and blasted a slap shot over the glove of Chicago net minder Jordan Binnington. Hunt's 16th goal of the season came on a Barons power play chance and tied him for the AHL lead in defensemen goals with Binghamton's Chris Wideman, and was the Barons' first goal against the Wolves in more than 116 minutes of play this season.

Chicago's Benn Ferriero scored the game's first goal at 4:40 of the third period, grabbing the loose puck in the right circle and firing a turnaround shot that sailed over the glove of Brossoit for a 1-0 Wolves lead.

With a win by the San Antonio Rampage Saturday night, the Barons now find themselves tied with the Rampage for the lead in the AHL's West Division and third overall in the Western Conference. The Barons currently hold the tiebreaker over the Rampage.

The Barons and Wolves meet again Sunday, March 22, in a 4 p.m. start at the Cox Convention Center.
