Dubuque Fighting Saints News Release

CEDAR RAPIDS, IA-For the second straight night, it was Seamus Malone and Robby Jackson that led the way for the Dubuque Fighting Saints. Malone notched a hat trick in the second period, Jackson had four points to help lead Dubuque to a Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup victory over Cedar Rapids, 4-2, Saturday night at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena. Dubuque won their fifth game of the season against the RoughRiders and moved four points ahead of Cedar Rapids for the Prairie Farms Cowbell Cup lead.

After the first period yielded no goals despite 16 shots for Dubuque, the tides turned in the second period. Malone got Dubuque on the board, scoring his 18th goal of the season at 3:42. Jackson sent the puck to the front of the net where Malone walked around Cedar Rapids goaltender Ryan Larkin. His shot was swept away by Larkin, but not before it had crossed the goal line. The referee signaled a goal, and video review confirmed the call that put Dubuque up 1-0.

Jackson would add to Dubuque's lead on the power play at 8:03. Wyatt Ege and Hayden Shaw sent passes back-and-forth at the blue line before Shaw elected to fire a wrist shot to the goal. Jackson deflected the puck up and over Larkin's glove to make it 2-0 Dubuque.

Malone would complete the hat trick with goals in back-to-back fashion just 35 seconds apart. His second tally of the game came courtesy of a bad line change by the RoughRiders. Sasha Larocque fed a pass up ice that was deflected forward by Jackson. Malone tracked the loose puck down and launched a quick wrist shot over Larkin's glove to make it 3-0.

Only 35 seconds later, Malone would score again. Shaw knocked the puck ahead to Malone, and the forward made a curl and drag move around a Cedar Rapids defender. On the backhand, he slid the puck through the Cedar Rapids goaltender Larkin's five-hole for the tally at 16:07 that put Dubuque up by four.

The RoughRiders would score the game's final two goals, with Ross Colton scoring at 19:39 of the second period over the glove of Dubuque netminder Jacob Nehama on the power play.

Erik Foley would make it a two-goal game at 14:22 of the third period, deflecting a Clark Kuster pass over Nehama's right pad on a delayed penalty to make it 4-2.

Both teams would finish the game 1-for-3 on the power play. Dubuque outshot Cedar Rapids 43-23, and Nehama earned his 24th win of the year, stopping 21 shots.

Dubuque returns home for a pair of games next weekend, hosting Madison on Friday, March 27, and Cedar Rapids on Saturday, March 28. Tickets start at just $10 and are available online at DubuqueFightingSaints.com or by calling 563.583.6880.
