Indy Races Past Greenville, 6-1, on Saturday
March 21, 2015 - ECHL (ECHL)
Greenville Swamp Rabbits News Release
Greenville, SC - The Greenville Road Warriors (33-28-4), proud ECHL affiliate of the New York Rangers and the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack, could not find an answer for the Indy Fuel (26-28-9) on Saturday and suffered a 6-1 setback at the Bon Secours Wellness Arena. Kyle Stroh led the way with two goals for Indy, while Michael St. Croix recorded Greenville's only tally.
With the loss, the Road Warriors (70 points) fell three points behind Orlando for the fourth and final playoff spot in the East Division. The club is now one point ahead of Elmira for fifth place with seven games remaining in the regular season. The Fuel took the season-series 2-1-0.
Indy struck first just 1:23 into the contest when Mike Duco camped out at the doorstep and redirected Pete Massar's feed from the left wing past Jason Missiaen's left toe pad for his 16th goal of the season. It was the only tally of the first 20 minutes.
The Fuel extended their lead early in the middle frame with a pair of goals in the first seven minutes to make it 3-0. Jamie Wise hammered home a rebound from the back post at the 5:00 mark, before Peter Schneider earned his first professional goal less than two minutes later. From the left wing, Schneider entered the zone and fired a blast from the circle that beat Missiaen to chase him from the game. Braely Torris replaced Missiaen for the remainder of the contest.
Greenville notched its only goal at the 9:00 mark of the second period courtesy of St. Croix on the power play. With Nick Bruneteau in the box for hooking, Ryan Hegarty and Dallas Jackson set up a feed to St. Croix in the left circle, who unloaded a one-timer past goaltender Shane Owen. It was St. Croix's 10th goal of the season.
Indy controlled the score sheet the rest of the way with three unanswered goals. Stroh made it 4-1 at 17:06 of the second period when he received a pass from Garett Bembridge and converted on a one-timer past Torris. Stroh continued his success in the third period and registered his second goal of the game, and 21st of the season, at the 3:40 mark.
Matt White capped the scoring at 7:40 of the final frame with his 10th goal of the season. Justin Holl guided a feed to an open White at the doorstep, who flipped a wrist shot top shelf over Torris' blocker for the 6-1 final.
The Road Warriors finished the game 1-for-3 on the power play and 3-for-3 on the penalty kill. Missiaen (14-15-3) suffered the setback and made eight saves on 11 shots in 26:34 of playing time, while Torris stopped 14 of 17 shots in relief. Owen (13-15-2) earned the win with 37 saves.
Greenville outshot Indy 38-28.
