Portland Thunder News Release
PORTLAND - The Portland Thunder concluded their two-and-a-half week training camp Friday morning with a six minute conditioning drill, on the back end of a two hour practice, their twelfth such session of that length in fifteen days. While you would expect exhaustion or fatigue to have set in long before that point, it was not evident on any of the team's faces. There were smiles.
"Our guys were great, and kept up the physicality throughout camp," Thunder head coach Mike Hohensee said. "Our veterans came back in-shape, and that really set the tone for the two weeks. Now, everything is geared toward LA."
"We've grown closer as a unit, and I didn't think that was possible," OL Jake McDonough stated, in reference to the team already being tightly knit. "We're all sad to see some guys go, but the team is excited for what is to come."
The end of training camp denotes the final round of roster cuts. Per league rules, teams must cut their roster from a maximum of 28 to a final 24. OL Ty Geiser (6-3, 305, Western Oregon), WR Mike Waller (5-10, 165, Central Washington), DB Pat Miller (5-11, 190, West Virginia), and QB Danny Southwick (6-2, 205, Occidental) were reassigned.
Additionally, OL Max Jean-Gilles, Brandon Lockheart, Dwayne Morgan, and DL/LB Dexter Davis will begin the season on injured reserve.
