Wolves Dominate Game 1 Down Dashers 8-2

The Watertown Wolves looked to ride on their momentum from their decisive 5-2 victory over the Danbury Whalers as they entered their first championship game against the Danville Dashers. Danville, also in their first championship bout in the Federal Hockey League, came out to continue their streak of upsets, as they knocked out the #2 seed Dayton Demonz to get to this match.

Mike Donnellan threw the first blow on an assist by Matt Wray to give the Wolves the first goal at 13:43 Dane Erickson and Donnellan earned penalties for cross-checking and high sticking respectively to give the Dashers a 5-on-3 power play. Brian Soskin capitalized on the opportunity to tie the game at 1. Watertown turned up the heat with goal less than a minute apart by Cody Dion and Mike Zannella. Dion extended Watertown's lead again with just 4 seconds left to end the period 4-1.

Danville started the second period switching from net minder Matt Anthony to goal tender Breton Lindoff. Watertown continued to apply the pressure. Donnellan extended the lead with his second goal of the night on assists from Dion and Erickson. Justin Alonzo intercepted a Danville pass and made a fast break to make the unassisted, short-handed 6th goal for Watertown.

Danville tried to mount a comeback early into the third period with a goal from Gehrett Sargis on assists from Mike Hansen and John Scully. Watertown wasn't having any of it as Stanislav Vlasov scored on assists from Phil Bronner and Lucas Labelle a minute later. The Wolves would put the icing on the cake with Dion's hat-trick goal of the game to put them on top 8-2. Watertown outshot Danville 40-32.

First star of the game went to Cody Dion. Stanislav Vlasov earned the second, and Captain Lucas LaBelle earned the third.

The Watertown Wolves will continue the best-of-5 series for the cup on Saturday, March 21st at the Watertown Municipal Ice Arena against the 3rd seed Danville Dashers. The puck drops at 7:35 pm.
