Everett Silvertips News Release

VICTORIA, BC - The forward line of Remi Laurencelle, Brayden Low and Nikita Scherbak combined for seven points on the night as the Everett Silvertips earned a 4-3 win over the Victoria Royals Friday night at the Save-on-Foods Memorial Centre. Combined with Portland's loss at Tri-City, the victory puts the 'Tips back alone atop the U.S. Division with the chance to clinch the title via two more wins.

Laurencelle scored a goal and assisted on two others, while Low had a goal and an assist and Scherbak contributed two helpers. Ivan Nikolishin opened the scoring in the second period and Noah Juulsen scored the eventual game-winner in the third as the Silvertips finished the night with a 28-21 shot advantage.

Both teams had good scoring opportunities in the opening period, but neither was able to light the lamp. The Silvertips killed off two Victoria powerplays before threatening to score numerous times as the period went along, with Matt Fonteyne hitting the post and Coleman Vollrath managing to cover up during multiple scrambles at the Royals' net. Shots in the period were 9-7 for Everett.

The Silvertips took the lead on their first powerplay chance as Ivan Nikolishin rifled home a shot from the slot early in the second period. Victoria answered on the man-advantage midway through the period as Brandon Magee picked the top corner over Carter Hart's shoulder to tie the game at one. The Royals went on top 2-1 when Magee one-touched a pass in tight quarters to Austin Carroll, who re-directed into the net at 12:38. Great puck movement in the offensive zone led to the tying goal as Nikita Scherbak and Remi Laurencelle helped feed Brayden Low for his 15th goal of the year. Low returned the favor just 2:17 later, winning a puck behind the net and slipping it out front to Laurencelle for the finish and a 3-2 Silvertips lead after two.

The score didn't change for half the third period until Scherbak sent a pass across the zone to a cutting Noah Juulsen, who banked a shot in off Victoria netminder Coleman Vollrath to make it 4-2 Silvertips. The Royals cut the lead back to one with five minutes remaining as Tyler Soy scored off the rush on a nice feed from Greg Chase, but the Silvertips held off a late charge to complete the 4-3 victory.

Carter Hart (18-5-2-2) stopped 18 of 21 shots in net for Everett to earn the victory. Coleman Vollrath (28-15-3-1) made 24 saves in defeat for Victoria. The 'Tips finished 1 for 2 on the powerplay, while the Royals were 1 for 3.

The Silvertips and Royals will both board the ferry Saturday morning bound for XFINITY Arena with the second game of their home-and-home series and Everett's final regular season home game coming up Saturday night. Puck drop is set for 7:05pm on Fan Appreciation night, which will feature numerous giveaways and a guaranteed $10,000 prize in the 50/50 raffle. The 'Tips then conclude the regular season Sunday in Spokane at 5:05 pm.
