Wolves Lose Close One in Peterborough

The Sudbury Wolves were in Peterborough Thursday evening to kick off their final road trip of the season. The Wolves played a solid road game, but ultimately fell to the Petes 4-2 in the final minute of the game. The win helped the Petes clinch a playoff spot.
Captain BRODY SILK gave the Wolves an early 1-0 lead as he defeated Petes' goaltender MATTHEW MANCINA. 17-year-old Wolves' goaltender TROY TIMPANO made a number of key saves in the opening frame as the Wolves headed to the dressing room up by one. Shots on goal after the first were 12-9 in favour of the Petes.
The Petes tied things up just under 4 minutes into the second frame on a power play goal by GREG BETZOLD. JOSH MAGUIRE then gave the Petes the lead just past the 10 minute mark of the second period. Shot on goal after the second, were 26-24 in favour of Petes.
The Wolves battled back early in the third as veteran forward JACOB HARRIS scored a rocket on the power play to tie the game up at two goals apiece. The game remained tied until less than a minute remained in the final frame when JOSH MACDONALD was the hero for the Petes and beat TIMPANO to give them the lead. The Wolves pulled TIMPANO in the dying second in a last minute effort to tie the game back up and bring it to overtime, however the Petes added an empty net goal to take the victory and clinch their spot in the 2015 OHL Playoffs. Final shots on goal were 38-35 in favour of Peteborough.
The Wolves will resume play Saturday when they visit the Belleville Bulls for the final time in franchise history as they Bulls will be moving to Hamilton for the 2015-16 season. Game time is 7:05pm.
