March 16, 2015 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Oshawa Generals News Release

It was a big 9-1 win for the Generals tonight, earning another win and another two points on their already record breaking season. Despite the tough competition that Kingston has provided this season, the Generals came out to win tonight and were indeed successful.

The Generals came out strong in the first period, dominating in both goals scored and shots on goal. Will Petschenig got things started early, putting his third goal of the season past Jeremy Helvig at 2:46. The goal was assisted by Cassels and Brown. The goal was scored on a four on four as Schutt was sitting for unsportsmanlike conduct and McCarron was in the box for slashing. At 7:18, Tobias Lindberg scored another Generals goal, this time assisted by McCarron and Mermis. Just over two minutes later, Brent Pedersen used some fancy handwork and got a third past Helvig at 9:49, assisted by Mermis and Mistele. The Generals weren't done yet and at 10:36 Hunter Smith scored, giving the Generals a big 4-0 lead early in the game. Cassels picked up his 40th assist of the season on Smith's goal and Manchurek scored an assist as well. Before the period could come to an end, Cole Cassels put a beauty in the net, scoring his third point of the game before the first period wrapped up. Bradley Latour had the assist on his goal. At the end of the first frame, the Generals had as many goals as the Frontenacs had shots on goal - five.

Scoring continued into the second period when Matt Mistele scored a power play goal at 1:18, assisted by Vande Sompel and Dal Colle. After the sixth Generals goal of the night, Helvig was pulled and Lucas Peressini took over between the pipes. Despite the goalie change, Mistele wanted another goal and at 5:10 he put one past Peressini, giving the Generals a huge 7-0 lead over their opponent. Mistele's second goal was assisted by Mermis and Cirelli. At 7:23 the Frontenacs found their first chance of the night and Juho Lammikko put the Fronts on the board for the first time in the game. At the time of the goal, Dakota Mermis was called for hooking but the Generals killed off the penalty with no trouble. By the end of the period, shots on goal were even at 15 apiece but the Generals still maintained a 7-1 lead heading into the third.

While the third period was slower on goals, the Generals still managed to increase their lead in the final frame. At 5:14, Hunter Smith sent Caron into the boards and was called for two minutes for elbowing, five minutes for check to the head, and was ejected from the game with a game misconduct for check to the head. The Generals fought hard to battle through seven minutes without a man. They proved their skill on the penalty kill when Michael Dal Colle scored his 40th goal of the season at 11:31, assisted by Lindberg. Before the game could end, Mitch Vande Sompel took a rocket of a shot and went top shelf on Peressini. His goal, assisted by Wallace and Latour, gave the Generals an impressive 9-1 lead. Ken Appleby played his 49th game of the season and earned his 38th win tonight, allowing only one goal past him. It was a big night of points for your Generals, especially for Mistele, Mermis, and Cassels, all with three points apiece in tonight's game.
