March 14, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Portland Pirates News Release
Portland, Me. - The Portland Pirates (35-22-3-1) blanked the Norfolk Admirals (22-31-5-3) 2-0 in a home shutout at the Cross Insurance Arena on Saturday Night. It was the second win in a row against the Admirals, seventh win in a row overall for the Pirates, their longest win streak of the season. Portland goalie Mike McKenna (24-14-2) recorded his sixth shutout of the season and tied his career mark for wins in an AHL season.
The Pirates put up their first goal of the night in the first period when Henrik Samuelsson found the back of the net, assisted by Alex Bolduc and Jordan Martinook at 10:27. They would net their second of the night at 11:11 in the second frame on a breakaway goal from Brendan Shinnimin, right out of the penalty box. Philip Samuelsson and Martinook assisted Shinnimin on the goal.
The Pirates were able to fend off the Admirals over three periods of play, but not for lack of effort on Norfolk's part. They made several close shots on net and had seven power play opportunities, including a 5 on 3. However, McKenna was like a brick wall and stopped all 31 shots that came his way. Admirals' goalie Jason LaBarbera (7-12-6) stopped 25 out of 27 Pirates shots.
The Pirates return to action on Friday, March 20 and Saturday, March 21 with two games against the Hershey Bears at home. Both games will be played at 7 p.m. Saturday's game will have buy-one-get-one-half-off tickets, call 207-PIRATES to save up to 40% on game day prices. Season tickets for the 2015-2016 Portland Pirates season will go on sale on Monday, March 16.
