Oshawa Generals News Release

The Generals made history tonight after beating the Mississauga Steelheads 6-1 and beating the franchise record for most points in a season. The Oshawa Generals secured their 49th win of the season, putting them at 103 points, a record breaking number for your Generals.

The Generals dominated the first period, spending most of the first frame in the Steelheads end and closing the period with a 1-0 lead. With the first place team taking on the ninth place Eastern Conference team, the rankings seemed clear through the first period. Michael Dal Colle scored the lone Generals goal of the period at 11:55, assisted by Tobias Lindberg. At 19:20, Devlin was called for tripping and only three seconds later, McCarron was sent to the box on an interference call, leading to some four on four action to close the period. The period ended with the Generals outshooting the Steelheads 15-7 and holding a 1-0 lead.

In the second period there was a bit of a shift from domination to equal play between these two teams. The Generals faced a 5 on 3 late in the second with Wallace in the box for cross checking and Mermis sitting for tripping. Despite the penalties, the Generals only allowed one goal in the period and it came from Everett Clark only 1:15 seconds in. The Steelheads took a leading role in the second period, outshooting the Generals 12-11 and coming back to tie the game 1-1.

There was a clear change of speed in the third period when the Generals came out to fight hard for a win. Indeed, they fought hard, scoring five goals in the period, ultimately giving them the win on home ice tonight. Hunter Smith got things started early with a quick unassisted goal at 1:14. At 6:59, Tobias Lindberg scored the third Generals goal of the night and his second point of the night, assisted by Michael McCarron and Josh Brown. At 10:45, Dakota Mermis picked up the fourth Generals goal of the night, putting one past Jacob Brennan, assisted by Josh Brown. A couple minutes later, Michael Turner was taken down by Michael McLeod. McLeod was given a game misconduct and five minute penalty for check to the head. At 18:05, the Generals took advantage of a power play chance with MacIntyre in the box for hooking. Matt Mistele scored, assisted by Brown and Vande Sompel, giving the Generals a 5-1 lead late in the third. Anthony Cirelli wrapped the scoring up tonight scoring the sixth and final goal of the game at 19:13, assisted by Carlisle and Petschenig.

Tonight, Tobias Lindberg came out with first star, Michael Dal Colle was second star, and captain, Josh Brown was awarded third star. Jeremy Brodeur played his 18th game of the season and earned his 11th win tonight. This record breaking night won't be forgotten any time soon and we thank all of our fans who came out to see the game tonight!
