Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

Winnipeg Goldeyes manager Rick Forney announced today the signing of right-handed pitchers Jon Fitzsimmons and Benji Waite for the 2015 season.

Fitzsimmons, 23, was signed as an undrafted free agent by the Kansas City Royals in 2013 and played the last two seasons in their system with Rookie level Idaho Falls of the Pioneer League. In 13 relief appearances last season, the product of London, Ontario went 0-1 with a 5.40 ERA and three saves. He played his college career at Canisius College. He was the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Relief Pitcher of the Year in 2012 and 2013 after compiling 21 saves in 45 appearances in those two seasons.

"He's a young, powerful rookie arm," Forney said. "When he's pitching with regularity out of the bullpen, he's got 90-94 miles-per-hour velocity. We certainly have big plans for him."

Waite, 28, made 30 appearances out of the bullpen for Rio Grande Valley of the United League last season, going 6-2 with a 3.35 ERA. He played for Trinidad of the Pecos League in 2013 and played his college career with Samford University and Alabama-Birmingham.

"He can sink the ball and his velocity is pretty good, right around 90," Forney said. "I hear he has good stuff and I am anxious to see how his arm can translate into our league."

The Goldeyes now have 19 players signed for the 2015 season, including 11 pitchers and eight position players.

Season tickets and 9-Game Mini Packs for the 2015 season are now on sale. Fans can visit Goldeyes.com or call 982-BASE (2273) for more information.
