March 13, 2015 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL)
Milwaukee Wave News Release

Your Six-Time Champion MKE Wave were eliminated Thursday from the 2015 Major Arena Soccer League Ron Newman Cup Playoffs by the still undefeated and defending MISL Champions Missouri Comets 8-2 at the Independence Event Center.

The game started out promising for the Wave, the score was tied at one at the end of the first quarter. Wave goal coming from #15 Tony Walls and the Comets from Vahid Assadpour. Going into the second quarter it was all Missouri as they scored 4 goals in the second quarter. Goals coming from Kiel Williams, Bryan Perez, Josh Gardner and 10 seconds left in the half Vahid Assadpour scores his second. The Wave were down 5 to 1.

Going into the second half, the Wave needed to bounce back if they wanted to move on in the playoff to face the Baltimore Blast. But the Wave looked flat all night, while the Comets were dominant all night. The Comets held the Wave scoreless in the third quarter, while they score 2 more, goals coming from Brian Harris and Leo Gibson. In the fourth, the Wave played with the 6th Attacker, and were able to score; goal coming from #18 Stefan St. Louis. But the Comets lead was to hard to come back from. Vahid Assadpour add one more for the Comets.

Head Coach Giulian Oliviero on...

Tonight's loss to Missouri:

"It's very disappointing. We had plenty of opportunities, hung in there in the first half but let it slip away. You've got to give the Missouri Comets all the credit in the world. They're 20-0 and the defending champs for a reason. Everything had to go right for us tonight and unfortunately it didn't."

On the season overall:

"I couldn't be happier. The team and organization went through a lot of positive changes this year. There are a lot of great things happening and it was a great building block for not only myself, learning so much this year, but the team as a whole. Nick Vorberg as an assistant this year was fantastic, Marcelo Fontana and Jonathon Greenfield did a great job as co-captains. Just a great group of players who are a lot of fun to be around. I'm proud of the team overall, thankful to the organization and to the fans who really helped us tremendously this season. Moving forward, the MKE Wave will be a team that other teams will have to deal with."

Who's going to win the 2015 Major Arena Soccer League Ron Newman Cup? Las Vegas, Monterey, Baltimore, Missouri?

"The defending champs are going to be tough to knock off. Missouri beat us tonight and go into Baltimore Friday for game one. That's a quick turnaround. I think whoever comes out of the Baltimore, Missouri series will be the first time Major Arena Soccer League Champions."
