Fioretti and Glover both play for the Acadia Axemen, Edwards, Gayle, and Messier are with the Calgary Dinos, and Braes is suiting up with the UNB Varsity Reds.
The CHL is the premier development league for CIS hockey. Across the CIS hockey system are WHL and CHL graduates who are using their league scholarship package both to pursue their academic goals and continue to play the game they love at an elite level. This year, 166 CHL graduates are represented on all eight teams competing for the University Cup and comprise 78% of all players in the tournament.
The WHL continues to be the leading provider of hockey scholarships in Western Canada. Since 1993, the Western Hockey League has awarded more than 5,200 scholarships to graduate players, representing an investment by WHL ownership of more than $17 million.
Quarter-Final games begin on Thursday while the tournament concludes on Sunday, March 15. All tournament games will be webcast at www.CIS-SIC.tv. Saturday will see Semi-Final action at 11:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m. (ET) broadcast on Sportsnet 360 while Sunday's Championship Final can be seen at 5:30 p.m. (ET) on Sportsnet 360. More information on the tournament can be found at www.universitycup.ca.
CHL graduates are able to compete in CIS hockey programs and receive their education paid for by taking advantage of the Scholarship Programs throughout the CHL which are funded by the member clubs of the Western Hockey League, the Ontario Hockey League, and the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League.
