Blazers Beat Cougars 7-4 on Home Ice

The Kamloops Blazers earned a 7-4 victory over the Prince George Cougars on home ice Wednesday night.

It was a wild start to the game with both teams trading odd man rushes in the first few minutes of the game.

Jake Kryski opened the scoring 2:29 into the game. He blew by the Cougars defensemen and ripped a shot past goaltender Ty Edmonds to make it 1-0 for the Blazers.

The Cougars came back and tied the game two minutes later on a long shot from Tomas Andrlik that hit goaltender Connor Ingram's glove and bounced in.

Cal Babych gave the Cougars the lead on a turnover. He squeezed a shot through Ingram to make it 2-1 for the Cougars 8:07 into the game.

The Blazers never panicked and came back with a goal on an odd man rush. Cole Ully outwaited a sprawling Edmonds before sliding home his 33rd goal of the season to make it 2-2.

Defenseman Michael Fora gave the Blazers the lead on an end-to-end rush on the power play. He split the defensemen and slid home his sixth goal of the season to make it 3-2 for the Blazers going into the second period.

The scoring spree stopped in the second period. The Blazers best chance came off the stick of defenseman Marc McNulty as he rung a shot off the post.

The Cougars tied the game up as a deflected shot bounced off of Ingram's chest and Brad Morrison was at the side of the net to pot his 22nd goal of the season to make it 3-3 with 2:41 to play in the period.

The Blazers came right back and scored twice as Marc McNulty intercepted a breakout pass and ripped a shot scoring on his former team to make it 4-3 for the Blazers.

Nick Chyzowski made it 5-3 roofing a backhand with 37 seconds left in the period as the Blazers took the lead into the final frame.

Chase Witala scored a quick goal for the Cougars  45 seconds into the third period on a wrist shot that beat Ingram glove side to make it 5-4.

The Blazers had to kill off three straight penalties in the third period. Goaltender Connor Ingram came up big robbing Chase Witala, who had an open net to keep the game at 5-4.

Jesse Zaharichuk got his chance to play with Matt Needham and Cole Ully and he went to the net before scoring his third goal of the season with 4:45 to play in the game to make it 6-4 for the Blazers.

Matt Revel iced the game with an empty net goal to make it a 7-4 final for the Blazers.

The Blazers outshot the Cougars 46-36 on the night. The power plays were lopsided in favour of the Cougars as they went 0-for-6, while the Blazers were 1-for-2.

The win lifts the Blazers in a tie for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference and two points behind the Cougars for the final playoff spot in the B.C. Division.

The Blazers will now look ahead to the weekend as they host the Kelowna Rockets on Friday, March 13th and are in Kelowna on Saturday, March 14th.
